Apple unveils the iPhone SE

Yesterday Apple announced their new 4-inch iPhone SE with 12-megapixel camera, Apple Pay, A9 processor and a slightly updated iPhone 5 appearance.

Apple announced the iPhone SE at their “Let Us Loop You In” spring media event, yesterday. The iPhone SE is Apple’s newest addition to iPhone line for users who prefer smaller phones than their current iPhone 6 offerings.

As you can see above, the iPhone SE is nearly identical in appearance to the previous iPhone 5(s). The only differences are the addition of the rose gold color option, a color matched stainless steel Apple logo and matte chamfered edges. However, in this case, the internal components are what make this iPhone truly shine.

“iPhone SE is an exciting new idea — we started with a beloved, iconic design and reinvented it from the inside out,” said Phillip Schiller, Apple’s senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.

Apple has completely updated the internal components of this new iPhone. It now has the faster Apple A9 chip with the M9 coprocessor which Apple says give the iPhone SE the same processing and graphics performance as the current iPhone 6S.

As well as a new processor, the iPhone SE has a 12MP iSight camera that is capable of shooting of 4K high-definition video. It also includes Retina Flash for selfies taken in low light, Focus Pixels, True Tone Flash, and a new image signal processor. These new features give the device the abilities for not only 4K video, but also 1080p video at up to 60fps, slo-mo up to 240fps, and panoramas up to 63MP.

A few of the other new specifications included in this iPhone are faster LTE, voice over LTE, Wi-Fi calling, Blutooth 4.2, and improved battery life over the iPhone 5s. It also includes support for always-on “Hey Siri” and Live Photos (Live Photos can be viewed with a long press of the photo).

Finally, the new iPhone has new improved microphones as well as an NFC chip. This means that Apple Pay is supported on this device making it the first 4-inch iPhone with the ability. This is a welcome inclusion for people who have wanted Apple Pay, but do not want to buy a larger more expensive iPhone 6(s).

With the all new updates, Apple claims the iPhone SE is the “most powerful phone with a 4-inch screen.”

The iPhone SE will launch as Apple’s least expensive new iPhone ever starting at $399 unlocked or free with tw0-year contract with carriers. You can get more information about the pricing and availability here.
