Meet and Greet with David Gandy: On being the face of Dolce & Gabbana – Light Blue Pour Homme, his difficult entry with Singapore’s immigration and his quest to dominate the fashion industry.
Gandy mania has hit the streets of Orchard Road, Singapore on 18 October 2015 when highly sought after male supermodel, David Gandy, was present to meet his adoring fans. As part of marking the celebration of Dolce & Gabbana – Light Blue in collaboration with ION Orchard and Sephora Singapore, media, consumers and fans got up close and personal with the main face of the perfume. What made the event truly magical was that lucky fans, myself included, had their Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue fragrance autographed by the Essex model, along other goodies to boot.
You can see my review on Dolce & Gabbana – Light Blue Pour Homme here.
When I first received news from Sephora that David Gandy will be in town, I told myself, HAVE to meet him, regardless of any situation I might face with. Being a holder of the Sephora Black Card, I was entitled to meet the man of the hour and receive a complimentary Light Blue Pour Homme signed by the stud himself, provided if I was among the first 80 to purchase any fragrances from the Italian fashion powerhouse on the day he will be in town. I paid a visit to Sephora to see where the stage was set and to decide the fragrance I would be getting for myself. I made reservations with one of the sales staff after picking out the scent, Dolce & Gabbana – The One Pour Homme. I set the alarm before turning myself in so that I try to look good when I meet Gandy the next day.
Gandy is here!
I was up and early, skipped breakfast and made my way to Sephora in ION Orchard. I had arrived 15 mins before the Sephora shutters were up. I noticed a few people, whom I assumed were there like me, came much earlier than me.
Once my watch’s hands hit 10 am, the shutters were raised, and I made a mad dash to the counter to pay the products I reserved before. There were, of course, a few overzealous women who were way faster than me and started queuing before me. I counted those who were in front of me, and I was very confident that I am eligible for the session later in the day.
I was over the moon when I received this card. As you can see, I am one of the lucky 80 to meet DAVID GANDY in person! (Sorry, I just had to insert the exclamation marks) I was told that I had to be at the designated area early and queue by 3.30 pm for the meet-and-greet session. Since I had some time to burn, I did some work at a local cafe and work out some sweat at the gym.
Waiting for the man of the hour
The time was 3.15pm when I made my way back to the event area located within ION Orchard. By now, a small crowd of Gandy fans had gathered, hoping to catch a glimpse of the male supermodel. I snaked my way through to get to the VIP line, aka those who will be able to get a photo opportunity with David Gandy. After presented the usher the queue card, I was handed a complimentary gift bag, which contained a complimentary Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme fragrance, an autographed postcard by Gandy, and other freebies from the Light Blue line.
I LOVE YOU DAVID GANDY!!!
