Kickstarter Digest: June 17, 2013

There are more than a couple of new faces on the second installment of Kickstarter Digest. This week’s collection includes a science fiction project from a talented female director, a web series starring folks from New Orleans and a documentary that could be described in one word as “meta”.

Advantageous

Director Jennifer Phang originally created Advantageous as a short film for PBS that went on to win a collection of independent awards. Now, Phang is back with a feature-length version of the science fiction tale about a mother who must make a decision to alter her life in order to give her daughter the chance for a better future. You can view the teaser on the project’s Kickstarter page and watch the original short here.

Sunken City

CJ Hunt and Kyle June Williams pitch Sunken City as a comedic series that follows the “crust punks, old money aristocrats, wide-eyed transplants, pirate people and countless other schemers” who call New Orleans home. Pirate people? We’re sold. This Kickstarter project, if it reaches its goal, will fund the complete first season of the series. The pilot episode is available for streaming on the Sunken Citywebsite.

Did they reach their goal? Not yet. The team is more than halfway there, with $6,201 raised towards a $10,000 goal.

Kickstarted: Documenting the Crowdfunding Revolution

There’s enough meta in Kickstarted: Documenting the Crowdfunding Revolution  to power a whole season of NBC’s Community. The film about crowdsourcing is utilizing Kickstarter to raise funds for post production. In the introspective documentary, directors Jason Cooper and Jay Armitage interview crowdfunding connoisseurs like Wish I Was Here‘s Zach Braff and musician Amanda Palmer.

Did they reach their goal? Not yet. The team has amassed $61,719 of the $85,000 goal.

Has the campaign closed? No.

How much time is left? 10 days.
