Wholemeal Seed Bread

If I haven’t said it enough already, I love love LOVE making my own bread. The smell, the taste of freshly baked bread! Kneading away all your worries – therapy in a bowl Stop me if I am repeating myself! Plus if you don’t have time, you could just bung it all in a bread machine (if you have one) the night before and set it to bake the next morning and wake up to lovely fresh bread. And most importantly you get to control what you put into your bread – I’m a big believer in homemade over store bought when it comes to certain things. This bread is one of my favourites full of hearty flavour and goodness.


4 cups wholemeal bread flour (or brown or white or a mix – your choice)

4 tbsp. olive oil ( or canola or sunflower – again your choice of oil)

1 tsp. salt

1 packet yeast (10g)

350ml lukewarm water

1 tsp. honey

1/3 cup sunflower seeds

1/3 cup oats

1/4 cup sesame seeds

1-2 tbsp. poppy seeds

Mix together water, honey and yeast, leave to foam.  Place flour, salt and oil in a bowl or bowl of mixer if you don’t wish to knead by hand.( Or if using a bread machine follow manufacturer instructions. )

Pour yeast mixture into flour and mix until well combined, knead for 5 minutes, cover bowl with cling wrap and leave to rise until doubled in size.  Knock down the dough and knead in oats and seeds, place into a well oiled, greased, or parchment lined bread tin. Switch oven onto 200 degrees C. Once dough has risen up again to your desired size, pop into oven for about 10 minutes or until  golden brown and crusty exterior.

Remove and let cool. Slice up and enjoy as you desire
